Our name is spelled Wyscaver,
but there are many other ways it has been found: Wisecaver, Wisecarver, Wisscarver,
Wyscaber. And all by some people that I know are directly related.
We can trace our family back
to Joseph Wyscaver who was born about 1803 in Virginia. He married Lucretia Maise who was
born about 1815 in Pennsylvania. The name Maise may be incorrect or spelled differently.
They had eight children all in Ohio, found them on the 1850 census for Ross, Huntington,
Ohio. Then not again till 1880 in Kansas;
- George W. Wyscaver and his
wife Sarah along with their ten kids.
- Joseph, his father, living as
a boarder with a couple named Underwood.
- Lucretia, his mother, living
with their youngest daughter Katie and her husband John Edgar and family next door to
Lucretia and Josephs son John and his family. They were all in Jewell Co., Kansas
but different townships.
This is where we really need
help trying to tie Joseph in with the many other Wiscaver, Wisecarver, etc. that are out
there and there are a lot of Georges and Josephs!!!!!!
George W. Wyscaver my Great
Grandfather was in the Civil War in the 7th Iowa Infantry. The story was handed
down that he was a drummer in the war, and maybe he was, but it doesnt show that in
his war records. He actually went in as a substitute for Sylvster Folliet. I havent
found out how or why that worked, either.
My Grandfather James H.
Wyscaver farmed in and around Kansas for years, finally moving to Colorado in 1938. Most
of his children had already moved to the Hudson, Weld Co., area.
