Barto Edward Anderson, son of August and Magdelena Anderson was born in Sweden on July 1, 1868. When but a small boy, Mr. Anderson came with his parents to America, settling in Missouri--there he grew to manhood. (The family left on daughter behind in Sweden, she was Anna Kojsas, she never came to America.)* On April 21, 1895 Barto E. Anderson and Mary Jane Ussery were united in marriage, and to this union four children were born; Edgar of Ft. Lupton, Mrs. Pearl Dunn of Keensburg, Roy of Ft. Lupton. One daughter preced them in death.
While the children were yet small, They emigrated to Colorado, settling in this vicinity in 1899. Here they reared their family experiencing something of the rigors of life on a farm in those early days. They celebrated the golden wedding at the home of their son Roy on April 21, 1948.
Mr. Anderrson had many fine qualities. He possessed a friendly disposition. He was an industrious man and led and active life up to the last. Recently his outlook on life became dark and he became fearful of being left without his lifetimemate whose ill health caused him great concern. What went on in his mind will never be known as he chose the path which he thought was best for him and for his loved ones.( He committed suicide, taking poison at the plot, in Hillside cemetery, where they were to be buried.)* There was a double service held on Wednesday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Ft. Lupton. Barto died December 6, 1945, and Mary Jane December 10, 1945.
